Coopworths

Our Coopworth stud was established in 1996 with ewes purchased from David Black 'Balure' Victoria. Sires and semen have been sourced from studs in mainland Australia and NZ with the highest Lambplan Index male progeny retained for stud use. Ewe lambs are mated most years, creating a shorter generation interval. All progeny are entered on Lambplan. Rams are offered for sale in December each year at our on farm auction, catalogues containing lambplan EBVs are available. Palmerston Coopworths are run under full commercial conditions and have proven themselves to be tough, reliable sheep suited to all Tasmanian conditions.

They have:

  • High fertility
  • High lambing and weaning percentage
  • Good mothering abilities
  • Good temperment
  • Good constitution
  • Easy care
  • Easy lambing
  • Tolerant to internal parasites and footrot

Palmerston will continue to breed 'pure' coopworths with the maternal composite operation in parallel. We recommend our sheep to anyone wishing to produce 1st cross ewes from Merinos or wishing to run a self replacing maternal flock.
